We are the first to admit that we have been a bit delinquent with the blog, but we have been working on all kinds of excuses! There have certainly been some bumps along the way.
First of all, blogging is a lot of work, and sometimes we don’t have the time or energy after a day of hard-core exploration to write it all up and download and arrange the pictures in some sort of coherent fashion. Then days go by and we are on to new experiences, and it’s easy to get behind.
Then there was China, blocking our access to WordPress. We were not able to outsmart it, even with temporary access to a VPN, although we did squeeze in a few backlogged blogs (backblogs?) with the help of a friend back in the USA.
We tried to get a bit caught up when we got to Mongolia, where we had uncensored access to the internet, only to discover that the iPad cannot read the fantastic 64GB memory card I had been using in my camera since Hong Kong (32GB is the limit). That meant all of the China and Mongolia pictures were trapped in that little card like those bad guys trapped in the flying glass sheet in the Superman movie. After a few hours at a smoky internet cafe, I managed to liberate a few of them, but there is a long way to go — and not an internet cafe in sight here in Bhutan.
Not to worry, though! We have about ten blogs in the hopper, almost ready to go (photo issue aside). We just have to figure out how to coordinate text and pictures now that Xavier is back in the US attending his daughter’s graduation from the University of Puget Sound, and I am traipsing around Bhutan with mom. Fingers crossed…
We have really appreciated your comments and support along the way. We get more inspired to write when we know there are at least a few people out there reading the blog!
